Important milestones in the history of the Czech garnet:
The huge expansion of the Czech garnet occurred in the second half of the 16th century under Emperor Rudolf II, who became very fond of these red stones and collected several unique pieces in his collections.
In 1762, Empress Maria Theresa banned the export of raw garnets from the Czech lands, thus protecting the domestic monopoly of their mining and processing.
At the time of the Czech national revival, the Czech garnet became an attribute of Czech patriots, the mineralogical symbol of Bohemia.
Thanks to the success of the Turnov goldsmiths at the World Expo in Brussels in 1958, the Czech garnet returned to contemporary art and began writing the modern history of jewelry production in Bohemia.
Czech garnet is used in jewelry alone or in a unique combination - Czech garnet and moldavite.

Moldavite were first discovered in Bohemia in the Vltava Basin 250years ago (Moldau in German), which i salso the origin of its name.
The biggest sites are in the southern Bohemia and the south-west Moravia (Czech Republic).
According to a recognized theory, moldavites - tektites were formed by the impact of an asteroid, which is why magical effects are also attributed to them.
The most famous localities are Chlum and Besednice.
